3 Easy Ways to Update Your Cabinets Without Spending a Fortune

14 September

Over time, your trendy kitchen can start to feel dated. If you feel like your kitchen is not as trendy as it once was, you don’t have to do a complete remodel to change how it feels. Sometimes, all you need to do is change your cabinets. Here are three easy ways that you can update your cabinets and give you kitchen a new feel all without spending a fortune.

Change the Hardware

The hardware that is on your cabinets can really set the tone for how your kitchen feels. The hardware in your kitchen includes all handles as well as all the visible hinges on your cabinets. Changing out the hardware can change the profile of your cabinets and the overall feel of your kitchen.

One of the current trends in kitchen design is the use of sleek, simple hardware that is not overly elaborate or decorative. Straight, clean, and sleek lines are a sign of a modern kitchen. Purchase one or two new handles and swap out your old handles, but make sure that you like the new look before you go all in and change out all the hardware in your kitchen.

To change out the hardware, you are going to want to use a drill to remove and reattach all the hinges and handles to your cabinets and drawers. Changing everything out may take a few hours, but when you are done, your kitchen will have a more modern feel.

Add Some Glass

Another trend in modern kitchen design is opening up your kitchen so that you can more easily see what is behind your cabinet doors by installing glass doors. You don’t need to change out all the cabinet doors in your kitchen; just pick a few strategically placed cabinet doors and switch them out for glass doors.

This will help highlight a particular area of your kitchen and showcase some of your great kitchen gear. You may also want to add some accent lighting to your new glass cabinet doors. Don’t worry; you don’t have to invest in having new lights wired in. You can purchase lights that you just stick or screw in place that use LED lights and are battery operated. They look just as nice as installed lights and reduce the amount of money you will spend on kitchen remodeling.

Lighten Up the Tone

The dark cherry colors that were so popular in the early 2000s have fallen out of style. Now in the kitchen, it is all about lightening things up. The look of light-colored wood is coming back in style, so you could always restain your cabinets to give them a new look.

White cabinets are also really in style due to their ability to really open up a space and make it feel more expansive than it really is. To get this effect, you can either whitewash or paint your cabinets. If you do go with white cabinets, be sure to use white on your ceiling as well; this will help to open the place up.
